Both are planned for later. Neither works today.
Synology NAS
- Filamama installs natively, and DSM isn't a fit for that yet. The installer knows macOS and Linux with systemd. DSM has no user service manager it can use, and DSM's Node.js package is version 20, while Filamama needs 26.
- A NAS package needs work we haven't done: running on DSM, working with DSM's folder permissions, and letting phones find the server next to DSM's own Bonjour.
- Video and HEIC. Synology removed server-side HEVC and H.264 handling from its own apps in DSM 7.2.2, so Filamama would need to bring its own video tools.
Umbrel
- No Umbrel app yet. Umbrel apps are packages in an app store; Filamama has no package, and no public release to package yet.
- Filamama speaks HTTPS with its own key, which phones pin when they pair. Umbrel expects an app to serve plain HTTP and puts its own HTTPS in front, so the two need to be made to fit together first.
What you can do today
Run Filamama on a Mac mini or a Linux machine at home, and keep the NAS for what it does well. The originals are plain files in plain folders, so a NAS can back them up like any other folder.
