Filamama vs PhotoPrism.
PhotoPrism is an open-source app for browsing, organising and sharing a photo collection, with faces and AI labels. It suits people who want to organise the photos they already have on disk, and who are fine running Docker or a package.

Small numbers are sources, listed at the bottom; Filamama's column comes from its own specification and code (source 1). "Not checked" means we didn't find it in PhotoPrism's own docs, pages or code, so we don't claim either way. Checked on 17 October 2026.
Where Filamama is ahead
- Filamama makes its own Android backup app, Piktures, with resumable uploads and a duplicate check before sending. PhotoPrism points to apps by other developers.
- The server makes no outbound calls. PhotoPrism loads maps and does reverse geocoding unless you turn them off.
- No paid tier at all. PhotoPrism's memberships add features to the free edition.
Where PhotoPrism is ahead
- Faces and AI labels today. Filamama has search and people as planned features.
- Sharing. Filamama doesn't share yet.
- iPhone backup through apps by other developers. Filamama syncs from Android only for now.
- A published open-source licence (AGPL-3.0).
Switching from PhotoPrism
There's no importer yet. Run Filamama next to PhotoPrism, pair your Android phone with Piktures and let it back up what's on the phone. Your PhotoPrism originals stay as files on disk; indexing existing folders is a planned feature.
