Filamama vs Immich.
Immich is an open-source photo and video server you run yourself. It suits people who want a full-featured photo app at home, with face recognition, a map, smart search and shared albums, and who are comfortable running Docker.

Small numbers are sources, listed at the bottom; Filamama's column comes from its own specification and code (source 1). "Not checked" means we didn't find it in Immich's own docs, pages or code, so we don't claim either way. Checked on 17 October 2026.
Where Filamama is ahead
- It installs natively on a Mac or a Linux box: one program and one SQLite file. Immich runs with Docker Compose.
- An interrupted upload picks up at the exact byte. In Immich, resumable uploads are still an open pull request.
- The server makes no outbound calls. Immich checks for new versions and loads map tiles from tiles.immich.cloud by default; both can be turned off.
Where Immich is ahead
- Faces, objects, smart search and a map today. In Filamama, search and people are planned.
- Shared albums, public links and partner sharing. Filamama doesn't share yet.
- An iPhone app. Filamama syncs from Android only for now.
- A published open-source licence (AGPL-3.0).
Switching from Immich
There's no importer yet. The simple way is to run Filamama next to Immich, pair your Android phone with Piktures and let it back up what's on the phone. Photos that are only in Immich stay there for now: indexing existing folders on disk is a planned feature. If your family uses iPhones, wait for the iPhone app.
